Healthy Housing Solutions, Inc. (Solutions), a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH), is recruiting individuals to join its voluntary Board of Directors. Solutions’ Board of Directors develops and promotes innovative ideas to increase its annual profit, which supports NCHH’s mission to create safe and healthy homes for all families, through practical and proven steps. Solutions is a residential environmental health and safety consulting firm based in Columbia, Maryland that provides technical assistance and support to businesses, nonprofits, property owners/managers, and public entities across the country.
BOARD ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Members of Solutions Board of Directors, along with the Chair and Executive Director, have two broadly defined roles:
• Establish the vision, mission and values of the organization and
• Set its strategy and structure.
The Board is responsible for overseeing, developing, and evaluating the programs, services, and fiscal health of the firm.
Board roles consist of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and General Board Members. We are seeking individuals who are committed and dedicated to ensuring the fulfillment of the firm’s mission by actively attending 4 regularly scheduled quarterly board meetings (most are held by conference call), promoting the firm amongst colleagues and professional networks, assisting with developing business opportunities, and lending their expertise and time.
We are currently seeking individuals who possess expertise in the following areas:
• Finance (accounting) - small business and/or small business owned by a nonprofit
• Contracting with the government
• Law - small business and/or nonprofit
• Operating or managing a small business/8(a) firm (disadvantaged business)
REQUIRE SKILLS
• Excellent oral and communication skills.
• Previous board member experience (preferred).
• Professional or academic background in accounting, law, education, marketing, research, public policy, or business administration.
YOUR ANNUAL COMMITMENT
Members of the Board of Directors are expected to attend each board meeting, serve or assist on committees, and be available to members and staff. This is estimated to require 5 to 10 hours per month.
